 Founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred

Heart of Mary

 Originally a two-year college for women

(Marymount College of Virginia); 13 students in first year

 Introduced baccalaureate programs and admitted

male students to selected programs in the early 1970s

 Became fully coeducational and changed name to

Marymount University in 1986

 Introduced first doctoral program in 2004

Student Athletes Community Service

Marymount student-athletes average 4000 hours of service per year, almost all of it in the local community:

  • Host Special Olympics
  • Sets for Vets
  • Childhood Cancer Organizations – vs Cancer, Mason Leach

Foundation, Go4theGoal

  • Serve meals at SOME and collect canned goods (close to or exceeding

1000lbs a year) for AFAC

  • Future Saints Program is a free learn to swim program for low income

Arlington families

  • Women’s Lacrosse was awarded the 2018 Distinguished

Community Service Award from Volunteer Arlington

– 3 year volunteer work with Arlington Housing Community tutoring and mentoring children
