Managing a Storefront In this three-day camp, students created basic accounting spreadsheets, tracked inventory, and practiced good customer service.

Develop Your Business Idea

Day One Students met to brainstorm potential business ideas. They came up with a new product idea for a

  • business. They then

learned how to price the product to make a profit. Day Two Students created a business plan and a budget for their business using Microsoft Word and Excel. Day Three Students created a presentation that they used to pitch their business idea to potential investors for funding.

Manage a Storefront

Day One Students learned about wholesale and retail price, margins, and profit. They browsed through an online wholesaler’s shopping site and created an inventory list in Microsoft Excel. Day Two Students were engaged in roleplaying exercises where they experienced the do’s and don’ts of customer service. They learned how to handle a cash register and the importance of creating marketing materials such as flyers to promote their business. Day Three Students worked in the Library’s gift shop. They used the cash register and retail spaces, and marketed the shop and its products to potential customers.
