Berkeley Unified School District California Healthy Kids Survey Results January 2012 November 14, 2012 Berkeley USD Student Services 1
Background • The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is administered every 2 years in grades 5, 7, 9, 11 and at Berkeley Technology Academy (Btech). (Data is reported by West Ed as Comprehensive High School separate from AlternaQve High School. State only reports comprehensive high schools.) • CHKS provides informaQon to facilitate prevenQon and early intervenQon educaQon. Delaying the onset of risk behaviors reduces the level of involvement and related problems. • CHKS data are used widely by many public agencies including the City of Berkeley’s Public Health Department. • Goals of CHKS are to (a) reduce risky behaviors, (b) help school districts to idenQfy areas for prevenQon and intervenQon educaQon, (c) promote learning, (d) promote healthy behaviors, and (e) promote health programs 2 2 Berkeley USD Student Services
