Mixing Alcohol
- In 2009, 4,090 students from eight North Carolina
universities complete a web based survey.
- Non-medical prescription stimulant (NMPS) users consume
more alcohol than individuals who do not use NMPS.
- Past year prevalence of NMPS use among this sample was
10.6%
- Among that 10.6% of NMPS users, 46.4% used NMPS
simultaneously with alcohol within the last year.

STUDY DRUGS
- In 2015, 13% of students in grades 8, 10, and 12 and 33.5% of adults
aged 19 to 28 reported consuming alcohol mixed with energy drinks at least once in the past year.
- In a study among Michigan high school students, those who binge
drank were more than twice as likely to mix alcohol with energy drunks as non-binge drinkers (49% vs. 18%).
- Drinkers aged 15 to 23 who mix alcohol with energy drinks are 4
times more likely to binge drink than drinkers who do not mix alcohol with energy drinks.
- Drinkers who mix alcohol with energy drinks are more likely than
drinkers who do not mix alcohol and energy drinks to report unwanted or unprotected sex driving drunk or riding with an intoxicated driver, or sustaining alcohol-related injuries.
