About the BCUC

  • Independent regulatory agency of the Government of British

Columbia

  • Responsible for regulating BC’s energy utilities (gas, electric, &

thermal), intra-provincial pipelines, reliability of the electrical transmission grid; and ICBC’s basic compulsory auto insurance rates,

  • Operates at arms’ length of government and exercises role in a

nonpartisan manner

  • Governed by the Utilities Commission Act and other legislation such

as the Clean Energy Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and Administrative Tribunals Act
