slide-6
SLIDE 6

ISBE General Guidelines

ISBE emphasized a “return to in-person instruction to the extent possible” among the three scenarios to consider:

  • Full Return to In-person Instruction
  • Blended/Hybrid Model of Remote and In-person Instruction
  • 100% Remote Instruction
slide-7
SLIDE 7

ISBE Academic Considerations

  • 5 hours of instruction are required

○ Recorded instruction, small group instruction, independent work (if assessed), individual student meetings/conferences

  • Appropriate staff planning and collaboration time
  • Professional development needs

○ Technology-based platforms/remote learning ○ Social emotional and mental health

  • Plan to return to full remote instruction pending a resurgence or second wave of

the virus

slide-8
SLIDE 8

ISBE Health and Safety Considerations

  • Require personal protective equipment (PPE), including face coverings
  • Require physical distancing as much as possible (no less than 3 ft. between desks; 6 ft. when

eating with masks off)

  • Minimize student movement and mixing of students (students assigned to classrooms &

teachers rotate)

  • Prohibit more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space
  • Require that schools track symptom screenings and temperature checks by having individuals

self-certify that they are free of symptoms before entering the school buildings

  • Require an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection

Priority Students - Cohort C

Students with Disabilities & English Learners:

  • ISBE guidance recommends in-person instruction be prioritized for Students with Disabilities

and English Learners to the extent possible and necessary to support individual students

  • D146 will work alongside families to individualize schedules for students in this priority group

that may benefit from more in-person instruction

  • If/when increased in-person instruction is warranted, it may take place in a self-contained

environment (outside of a general education classroom)

Please note: Early Learning Programs will follow the same guidance

slide-15
SLIDE 15

Hybrid Considerations

  • Keeps learning cohesive and allows for students and staff to move fluidly between in-person

and remote learning in the event we need to quarantine a classroom/staff member/group of students

  • Reduces the number of students present in the building daily by approximately half and allows

us to adhere to the safety and health guidelines with greater confidence

  • Allows us to reduce the number of in-person live teaching staff interfacing with students daily

and better support staff accommodations.

  • Enhances remote learning teaching capacity of all staff in the event that the District needs to

transition to full remote learning for all students.

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Remote Learning: Enhancements & Considerations

  • Enhanced remote learning expectations and instructional framework will be based on remote learning plan

developed by staff and administration that follows ISBE Guidelines ○ 5-hour day of instruction and learning outside of office hours ○ Combination of direct instruction and independent learning with small group breakout sessions in Zoom ○ Streamlined learning platforms- Seesaw and Schoology ○ Balance of direct instruction using tangible materials (curricular resources, class books/novel sets, math manipulatives, paper/pencil assignments, etc.) and digital instruction using online resources ○ D146 grading practices ○ More differentiation to meet student needs ○ Regular attendance will be taken daily

  • D146 students may be assigned to remote learning classrooms in their grade levels from across the District.
  • Dates for material pick-up-TBD
slide-17
SLIDE 17

Enhanced Remote Learning: Instruction and Resources

  • Math

○ Teacher led direct instruction and small group ○ Curriculum aligned digital resource that has teacher talk embedded and teacher created mini-lessons that support independent learning ○ Teacher monitors student independent work while working with students in small group ○ Online resource adapts to student mastery level of concepts (targets gaps and enhances strengths)

  • ELA

○ Teacher-led direct instruction and small group ○ Curriculum-aligned digital resource with embedded teacher led mini lesson videos (PD Committee will review next week) ○ Digital library supports small group instruction and projects ○ Digital resources support independent reading and monitors reading progress

Academic Considerations

Priority Content: Areas identified by ISBE are Math, ELA, and SEL. Time will be expanded in schedules to accommodate acceleration or narrowing of learning gaps.

Accelerated: Accelerated students will receive small group instruction combined with

supplemental online programs to keep students on the accelerated learning track. Remediation: Individualized and small group instruction combined with online programs will be used to narrow the learning gap for students.

slide-21
SLIDE 21

Other Instructional and Program Considerations: Part 1

  • If moving to Phase 3-all students transition to remote learning. Some high priority students may

continue receiving in-person instruction as identified by individual teams (special education and ELL)

  • Calendar adjustments:

○ Remote professional development planning day- August 25 & 26 ○ Move 1st day of school for students to Thursday, August 27

slide-22
SLIDE 22

Other Instructional and Program Considerations: Part 2
