State and Federal Expectations

April 17, 2020 Governor Greg Abbott closes school until the end of the 2019-2020 school year. June 18, 2020 Education Commissioner Mike Morath makes a statement “it will be safe for Texas public school students, teachers and staff to return to school campuses for in-person instruction this fall.” Flexibility for remote learning as an option. July 7, 2020 Education Commissioner Mike Morath gives guidance on return to school plans.

Return to School Plan

Return to School Task Force The CISD Return to School Task Force is made up of staff members representing every department including district administrators, principals, teachers, nurses, counselors, and CISD support staff. Return to School Guide The district developed a guide providing detail about CISD’s Return to School plans including instructional options, health and safety guidelines and more. Currently it is still in a DRAFT format, but aligns with Texas Education Agency. Commitment Form The district is asking families to commit to Face-to-Face Learning or Distance Learning for the first nine-weeks of the year. This commitment will allow the district and campus to better plan for the upcoming school year.

How Can I Prepare Myself as an Educator for the start of 2020-2021?

Prioritize Your Well-Being:

  • Reflect on how you are feeling. Ensure that you are taking care of yourself, physically and
  • emotionally. Coping with Stress.
  • Know that we are here to support you and one another. If you need to talk to someone, reach
  • ut to a trusted colleague, campus leader, counselor or one of our CISD crisis counselors.
  • CISD Employee Assistance Program is also available and provides 5 free visits with licensed

professionals. Prepare Yourself to Deliver Virtual Instruction:

  • Regardless of face-to-face or distance learning, you will need to be prepared and proficient to

deliver instruction digitally moving forward for this school year.

  • Learners may need to move back and forth during the school year from face-to-face or distance

learning due to COVID or other reasons.

  • The needs of our educators may change throughout the year

Human Resources Updates

Staffing & Hiring

  • Updated enrollment information from the demographer and from registrations

indicate no significant spikes or declines in enrollment at this time, so holding to staffing information previously provided to campuses and departments.

  • New hire technology distribution and badge pick-up taking place with safety

protocols - masks, hand sanitizer, social distancing, disinfecting - in place.

  • July 23rd - New Hire Welcome & Orientation via Zoom.

Planning for Staff Returning to Work

  • Coordination with Facilities & Maintenance Department and Aramark for

environment modifications and sanitation protocols.

  • Coordination between Coordinator of Health Services and CDC/DHHS for

masks, hand-washing/hand sanitizer, social distancing, and self-quarantine requirements.

  • HR communication and coordination of leave options and employee work

accommodations.

  • Work schedules that continue to meet legal requirements including a daily 30

minute duty free lunch and 450 minutes of planning time every 2 weeks.
