Year 3 students take a three-week school experience (EDUC 319 + 399). • Education courses are taken in Winter Term 1 of Year 3 alongside major studies courses. • Year 4 includes additional Education courses during Winter Term 1, then Summer Terms 1 & 2. • Year 5 is made up of remaining Education courses and practicum courses. • Refer to dual degree program described under your faculty in UBC Academic Calendar for program outlay. A program plan is provided to you by TEO Program Coordinator Bette Shippam. 28

  12. HOW DO I REGISTER MY COURSES? • Students will have two eligibilities on the registration system. • Students register for Education courses under BEDS eligibility AND register for home faculty degree courses under the appropriate eligibility (e.g., BKIN) • Where unavoidable conflicts arise a TEO program coordinator will assist in registration or modifying the schedule of Education courses. 29

  13. BEd PROGRAM PROGRESS SCHEDULE EXAMPLE 30

  14. CAN I CHANGE MY MIND? • The answer is YES. • Students may discontinue the dual degree option by withdrawing from the BEd program and then proceed with completing requirements for Bachelor degree major in the home faculty. • Students who do not complete the dual degree option can finish the first degree and apply to the BEd program later as a post-degree program. 31

  15. WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE? • Students have a faculty academic advisor and a TEO program coordinator. • Students meet with their advisors regarding course completion for each degree program. • Students confirm graduation eligibility in the academic major during Year 5 Winter Term 2. • The BEd program coordinator will review BEd requirements. • Students graduate from both programs at the same time even if home faculty requirements are completed sooner. 32

  16. WHY CHOOSE THE DUAL DEGREE? T I M E : • fewer courses in Year 5 allow more flexibility • to reflect on meaningful learning between programs • saved from fewer courses required in each program • earlier graduation (May) compared to the four-year plus one-year programs (November) • earlier teacher certification for hiring into teaching positions T U I T I O N : • reduced number of credits compared to the four-year Bachelor plus one-year post-degree Bachelor of Education 33
