  2. MIA – Passenger Traffic During 2011  Total Passenger Traffic Reached 38.3 Million – A New Record of MIA  19.9 Million Domestic, 52% of Total  18.4 Million Int’l, 48% of Total  Traffic Grew 7.3% for the Year, Ahead of Global Travel Growth of 4.9% 1

Demographic Characteristics: Departing Passengers Majority are out-of-area residents:  43% are non-US residents, mostly from South America  Substantial European foreign traveler increases of 33% Passengers are affluent:  34% of all US residents with incomes greater than $100,000 Passengers are well-educated:  63% have college / graduate degree Diverse ethnic composition:  Caucasian: 41%  Hispanic: 34%  African-American: 15% 11

Travel Characteristics: Departing Passengers Pleasure / personal travel is primary trip purpose:  77% of departing passengers Connecting Passengers:  48% connecting to other flights at MIA Passengers dwell / layover times:  70% of originating passengers and 68%over two (2) hours at MIA prior to departure of connecting passengers spend Among the originating (non-connecting) passengers:  76% of them are visitors  47% stay one to six days  33% stay one to two weeks  13% stay more than two weeks 12

Demographic Characteristics: International Arriving Passengers Majority are not US residents:  65% are non-US residents: South America 32% Europe 20% Caribbean 20% Central America 13% Other 15% Majority of passengers are Latin / Hispanic: 53%  22% are White / Caucasian and 13% are African-American Majority are well-educated with degrees and with high household incomes Frequency of MIA use: 41% using MIA for first time in past 12 months Majority are traveling for pleasure / personal reasons: 79% Majority are visitors to the Miami area: 56% 13
