Go to the image tab and edit the canvas size to be a landscape A3 size. Double click and rename your layer.

Duplicate the image

Hold ALT and drag the image until its adjacent to the original. It should snap, repeat this until it goes beyond the width of the wall.

You can see that each brick image has its own layer, but we want them as 1. So, with them all selected, right click and click Merge Layers to combine them.

Repeat the duplication process, holding ALT and dragging the merged brick images up so that they go beyond the wall. Then Merge the layers.

With the magic wand tool activated (you may have to right click

  • n the tool location and switch to magic wand), and the Section

layer selected, click in the area where the wall is. Now press CTRL + SHIFT + I to select the inverse of the wall, and DELETE the excess.

With the brick texture layer selected, go to Image > Adjustment > Levels and on the window, move the arrow at the black end on the left towards the right until you are happy with it.

Improve your selection

The white background is selected but so is some of the persons

  • shirt. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool and, whilst holding ALT,

select the area on his shirt that you don’t want selected. Right click on the person layer and Rasterise it. Then press DELETE to delete the white background.

Delete the overlap

Select the bit of shoe that is overlapping the section line and DELETE it. Your Photoshop edit is now complete. Tidy up your layers if they aren’t already so that there are 3 and they are named.

Place the original Section file we had. This file is a Vector. Vectors are more editable and do not pixelate. Where Photoshop works in pixels, Illustrator works in vectors.

Turn the section cut lines into a solid shape.

Shape builder

With the section cut lines selected, use the Shape Builder tool on the right and click in the 2 areas between the section cut lines. This will build them into a solid object. Press escape when done. With one of these built shapes selected, double click on the fill colour on the right and change it to a colour. You may need to right click here and change it to RGB

With your second (unfilled) section cut shape selected, choose the Eye dropper tool. Then click on your filled section cut shape. This will give it the same attributes as the first.

Draw a ventillation line using the Pen tool. If you click, hold and drag at each point this will give it a curve.

With your second (unfilled) section cut shape selected, choose the Eye dropper tool. Then click on your filled section cut shape. This will give it the same attributes as the first. Repeat until you have a curvy line. If you right click on the pen tool you can switch to the anchor tool and edit each control point on the line.

Turn off the Fill and give it a blue colour. Turn off the Fill and give it a blue colour. Then edit the stroke weight. Tick Dashed Line and change the dash and gap scaling, and give it an arrow head from the drop down menu.

Create a new character style by pressing the page icon on the bottom of the tab and them right click and select edit

Use the option provided on the different tabs to name your style and add associated font styles and sizes to it. Click ok to confirm

Select all pages you wish to apply the master page to and right click / apply master page. This will apply all master pages to them. Then to edit the text boxes on each page you must overwrite all master page items by right clicking on the page again and selecting

  • verwrite all master page items.

To place an image click on the file tab and select place. This will

  • pen a new window where you can select the image / diagram file to

be inserted and click ok. The image will appear around your cursor and you can now click to indicate the location of placement. The image can be resized by dragging the control points in or out when the image is selecting while pressing control and shift (for uniform resizing only).

To export your work as a pdf document select file on the top tab and select export. The first window to pop up asks you to select the

  • utput location and file type (preferably interactive pdf).

Once the location has been selected. All you have to do is select the pages to export and then set whether it is a single page or as a spread, the dpi of the images (useful to play around with to lower portfolio sizes). Once all options are acceptable click export and indesign will generate a pdf document of your portfolio.
