¡ Early ¡in ¡his ¡career, ¡Gaudi ¡rejected ¡traditional ¡architecture. ¡He ¡never ¡used ¡straight ¡ lines, ¡only ¡curved ¡lines. ¡Gaudi ¡disliked ¡straight ¡lines ¡and ¡angles ¡because ¡they ¡don’t ¡

• ften ¡appear ¡naturally. ¡Remember ¡how ¡I ¡said ¡that ¡Gaudi ¡was ¡passionate ¡about ¡

¡ ¡ This ¡is ¡a ¡view ¡from ¡the ¡terrace ¡of ¡a ¡famous ¡park ¡built ¡in ¡1900 ¡in ¡Barcelona ¡called ¡ Park ¡Guell. ¡ ¡Park ¡Guell ¡is ¡like ¡a ¡fantasyland ¡created ¡on ¡a ¡hillside ¡by ¡Gaudi ¡and ¡his ¡ friend, ¡Count ¡Eusebi ¡Guell. ¡ ¡They ¡originally ¡intended ¡for ¡this ¡park ¡to ¡be ¡a ¡housing ¡ development, ¡but ¡it ¡was ¡unsuccessful. ¡ ¡Only ¡two ¡homes ¡were ¡built; ¡ ¡Count ¡Guell ¡ moved ¡into ¡one ¡home ¡and ¡Gaudi ¡into ¡the ¡other. ¡ ¡While ¡neither ¡of ¡these ¡two ¡homes ¡ was ¡designed ¡or ¡built ¡by ¡Gaudi, ¡the ¡remainder ¡of ¡the ¡park ¡was ¡designed ¡by ¡Gaudi, ¡ ¡ including ¡it's ¡walkways, ¡roads, ¡and ¡public ¡spaces. ¡ ¡Gaudi's ¡home, ¡with ¡the ¡the ¡blue ¡ and ¡white ¡chimney, ¡was ¡designed ¡by ¡his ¡assistant, ¡and ¡is ¡now ¡the ¡official ¡Gaudi ¡

¡ ¡ This ¡is ¡one ¡of ¡ ¡Gaudi's ¡most ¡famous ¡buildings, ¡which ¡is ¡funny ¡because ¡it's ¡still ¡not ¡ finished! ¡ ¡It's ¡been ¡under ¡construction ¡for ¡133 ¡years ¡so ¡far! ¡ ¡The ¡hope ¡is ¡it ¡will ¡be ¡ completed ¡by ¡2026. ¡ ¡This ¡is ¡called ¡La ¡Sagrada ¡Familia ¡and ¡it's ¡not ¡a ¡private ¡house, ¡ but ¡a ¡church. ¡ ¡The ¡building ¡was ¡under ¡construction ¡for ¡one ¡year ¡before ¡the ¡original ¡ architect ¡abandoned ¡the ¡project ¡and ¡Gaudi ¡took ¡over. ¡ ¡Gaudi ¡combined ¡Art ¡Nouveau ¡ with ¡the ¡Gothic ¡form ¡of ¡architecture-­‑-­‑Gothic ¡architecture ¡is ¡from ¡Medieval ¡times ¡ (think ¡Knights ¡and ¡castles) ¡and ¡uses ¡lots ¡of ¡pointed ¡arches ¡and ¡vaulted ¡ceilings. ¡ ¡ Construction ¡was ¡slow, ¡ ¡and ¡at ¡the ¡time ¡of ¡Gaudi's ¡death ¡it ¡was ¡only ¡one-­‑quarter ¡
