A Snapshot of Amplify Implementation
Elementary Implementation Overview
- Inconsistent implementation at a
individual and building level
- Made progress in a few classrooms;
we have a lot of work to do
- Teachers need additional support in
scheduling science time in the school day
Middle School Implementation Overview
- Overall Successful Implementation
for majority of schools and staff
- Transitioning to All Digital Learning
Environment
- Developing Supplemental Materials
- Staff are utilizing department time
and professional development
Institutional Context
- Role of Administrators as Instructional Leaders
- Navigating a Digital Landscape
- Implementation of Middle School Standards and
Curriculum in Elementary Setting
- Creation of a Continuous and Responsive PD Plan

Student Experiences in NGSS
“ In particular the modeling tools in Earth, Moon, Sun to help students model the phases of the moon are really good. Students get a lot of practice writing claim, evidence, reasoning. Students get a lot of practice doing scientific argumentation - talking with peers about claims and evidence and reasoning, and discussing ideas. Amplify has students practice close reading - annotating their thinking/questions/connections as they read
- articles. This is a good practice for students. Students get evidence from
multiple sources - reading, hands on activities, simulations - that they have to put together for the CER. “
Lesson Learned:
- An Increase in the
Professional Development Opportunities for Staff Action for Future Implementation
- Develop a flexible and
responsive PD calendar a focus on Instructional Practices and Curriculum Materials
Lesson Learned:
- 6th Grade teachers feel
that planning, pacing, and curriculum mapping are the most essential areas for growth Action for Future Implementation :
- Curriculum mapping and
pacing will be addressed through professional development
Lesson Learned:
- Phenomena Based Units
have anchored student learning Action for Future Implementation :
- Develop clear storyline
between units
- Utilize overarching or
supplemental Phenomena ensure phenomena are ○ Localized ○ Relevant
Lesson Learned:
- Assessments lack
accommodations to support a variety of learning needs Action for Future Implementation :
- Improve accessibility of
classroom based assessments through modifications on Canvas
- Develop options for alternative
and classroom based assessments
Indicated Needs and Drivers for Next Steps
- Instructional Practices
○ Modeling Specific Lessons and Practice example: Science Seminars
- Developing a Clear Phenomena Driven Storyline
○ Revising the Unit Sequencing to develop a clear storyline
- Pacing
○ Curriculum Mapping and Instructional Minutes
- Assessments
○ Differentiating Amplify Assessments for accessibility to all learners
- Support for Administrators
○ Implementation and Learning around NGSS and Amplify
