The FINAL GRADE of every high school credit bearing
course is used to calculate GPA.
Students in grades nine through twelve may RETAKE A COURSE at the same level of difficulty if they have earned a D or an F in that
- course. Only one course attempt and the highest grade earned for the
course will be calculated in the GPA. A student in grades 9 - 12 must retake a course by the end of the next school year or before the next sequential course (whichever comes first). The student may not retake the course if the course being replaced has been used as a prerequisite for enrollment in a subsequent course; i.e., a student may not retake Algebra 1 after having earned credit for a higher level mathematics course (Geometry, Algebra 2).

Each institution may make exceptions in admitting students who do not meet all of the prerequisites, limited to those individual cases in which the failure to meet one or more prerequisites is due to circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the student. The College Preparatory Course Prerequisite Requirements are minimal requirements for four-year public college admission. Therefore, students should check early with colleges of their choice to plan to meet additional high school prerequisites that might be required for admission and to prepare for college entrance examinations. Students should prepare themselves for college-level work by enrolling in challenging high school courses, such as honors, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and dual enrollment courses.
