What Are Affirmations?
- Affirmations are positive statements that you tell yourself to help reshape
your perception of yourself and your life
- “I am capable of handling anything that’s thrown in my path.”
- “My beauty is not dependent on other people’s perceptions of me.”
- “I am a fearless, badass, money-making machine.”
- They are built upon the opposites of those negative, pesky thoughts that
try and tell you that you’re not enough

How Do Affirmations Work?
- It’s commonly accepted that telling yourself negative things over and over
again isn’t helpful
- “You’re so ugly.”
- “No one loves you.”
- “Why do you even try? There’s no way you can make this work.”
- Why aren’t more people on board with the power of telling yourself positive
thoughts?
- It’s a power that few people tap into because sometimes it feels silly and
like you’re lying to yourself
- By telling yourself negative things, you’re rewiring your brain to believe
them as the truth
- By telling yourself positive things, you’re rewiring your brain to believe
them as the truth.

Which Affirmations Should I Use?
- Spend 24 hours simply noting your thoughts
- What are the most common insults you tell yourself?
- What are the most common doubts that keep popping up?
- What are the most common negative preconceived notions you have
about yourself, others, and life?
- Write all of these negative thoughts on the left-hand side of the worksheet
below this lesson
- You’ll write your affirmation on the right-hand side
- To come up with your affirmation, ask yourself…
- If my best friend said this to me, what would I say in response to
him/her?
- What is the opposite of this thought that I’m having?
- How can I find proof that what I’m telling myself is incorrect?

Which Affirmations Should I Use?
- For example, if you constantly tell yourself that you’re not smart enough to
do your own taxes, one of your affirmations could be: “I’m smart and capable of figuring out any problem that crosses my path.”
- If you believe that you can’t find a good relationship because every single
guy out there is a scheming liar, your affirmation could be: “I know that not every guy is a scheming liar because two of my friends are in positive, happy relationships. I believe that the person I’m looking for is looking for me just as much.”

A Few Notes About Verbiage
- When you’re writing your affirmations, you want them to be strong and
active
- “I am” versus “I want to be”
- “I believe” versus “I think”
- “I know” versus “I hope”
- You also want them to be present
- “I am” versus “I will be”
- “I have” versus “I will have”
- If you say that whatever you want to have or be will come in the future,
it will always be coming in the future

Affirmations In Your Journal
- In the journaling practice we established in the gratitude lesson,
incorporate your affirmations
- Your evening journal is for gratitude; your morning journal is for
affirmations
- Out of all the affirmations you wrote, choose three that feel the most
powerful to you and that excite you the most
- Every morning, write these affirmations in your journal
- Speak every word that you write
- If you’re really feeling it, get up and do a dance, shadow box, or pound on
your chest while saying your affirmations
- It will feel super silly, but it’s a powerful way to integrate your body with
your mindset work

Affirmations Throughout The Day
- As you go about your day, take note of any times you have one of the
negative thoughts you wrote down on the worksheet
- When that happens, mentally pause and replace that thought with the
accompanying affirmation
- It will take a while to be conscious of the negative thoughts you have
- The more you do this, though, the more you’ll train your brain to dump the
negative thoughts and have faith in yourself
