In International l School Overview
Our Mission: The International School offers an
- utstanding educational experience
to all students, one which is focused on preparing them
- intellectually,
- socially,
- creatively,
- physically, and
- emotionally,
so that they are inspired to become lifelong learners and realize their dreams in the world at large. International was founded in 1991 as part of the state Schools for the 21st Century program to be a small laboratory/ demonstration school with an international focus, where a combination of excellent educational practices may be developed in a climate that supports innovation and experimentation. Distinguishing Characteristics
- Block schedule
- Seven Core Subjects
- Senior Project
- Focus Week
- Exchange Opportunities
What’s international about International?
- Mission focused on students as part of “the world at
large”
- International Connections: French Exchange (2-week and
3-month options) and Taiwan Travel Week, International Educator Visits
- Course work: Seven years of French language instruction,
World Geo focused Middle school International Studies courses, two full years of high school World History
- Instruction: International Skyping, UN Sustainable
Development projects, French Intern supporting all French classes, High School Retreat – Continent Focus each year
- What’s more, over the years our school has grown more
and more diverse, with families from countries all over the world. Why French?
While BSD offers Mandarin and Spanish programs at
- ther schools, International began with French and
- German. Students favored French, and with our size
and staffing we cannot sustain multiple languages. We have found many benefits to being a one language school such as cross-curricular projects, strong international school relationships, and a strong sense of community.

Last Year This Year MTSS data review: students in the achievement gap lacking in the skills needed for Algebra. Ran an AVID/Math Course for 8th graders taught by Algebra I teacher to provide extra support to students Review of Algebra I: Identified Focus Students for in- depth study that could help use determine root causes
- f student challenges.
MTSS continue with students still behind, with a focus
- n skill building.
AVID course not offered as need not identified in this year’s middle school students. Reallocated Classified Staff hours to create after-school 1-hour small group math teaching, re-teaching, and standards retakes with para that works closely with math teachers and has strong math background. - Many small group projects across all areas of the curriculum allow for
students to work with one many times and in different combinations
- Tier I classroom management is strong; students stay in class and are
engaged in learning
- For HS: 7 years of school together helps to develop deep bonds
Next xt Steps to Strengthen Connection wit ith Teachers
- Middle School & High School Arm of PBIS Team: “IS Next” – a group of
students that work directly with the PBIS team to engage in continuous cycle of improvement to plan, do, study, and adjust to address lack of connection between students and teachers
