Advisory Session • The purpose of this second year advisory session on day one of semester two is to inform you of the requirements of your BComm degree programme BComm degree programme. • It is your responsibility to now familiarise yourself with these. Note • Optional courses are not formal prerequisites for Final Year Streams but are strongly recommended. • Students wishing to apply for the Master of Accounting Programme must take Business Finance I and International Financial Reporting I to avail of maximum exemptions from the Financial Reporting I to avail of maximum exemptions from the professional accounting examinations. • Choose options with a view towards your interests aptitude and Choose options with a view towards your interests, aptitude and abilities, and final year stream. (International) Four Year Degree with Language • Required Credits: 60 ECTS Credits derived as follows: • 15 Obligatory (Commerce) • 20 Obligatory (Language) • 25 additional optional credits from the list of electives or from a single stream.   10. Progression to Final Year: B. Comm. (B.Comm. & B.Comm. International) Students must pass all the requirements of second year before progressing to final year. B. Comm. (Three Year Degree) • Pass: 60 ECTS in Second Year (50 Obligatory + 10 Optional) B Comm (International) (Four Year Degree) B. Comm. International) & B C I i l) Pass Mark • 40% to obtain Course Credit • But: Allowed to Pass up to 10 ECTS at 35% (Compensatable) • Students who obtain 35-39% in up to 10 ECTS will pass these modules by compensation and will not be permitted to repeat, see example on next slide. Excess Compensatable Credits - more than 10 compensatable credits in Year 2: h 10 bl di i Y 2 • Students may pass up to 10 ECTS by compensation at 35-39%. • If you have marks between 35 – 39% in more than 10 ECTS, you must choose which module/s to repeat AND inform the exams office staff. • You will not be permitted to repeat compensatable credits up to 10 ECTS as these will be regarded as ‘pass by compensation’. • If you have eg. 15 ECTS with marks between 35 – 39%, you must choose one 5 ECTS module to repeat, even though it may say ‘compensatable’ on C S d l h h i ‘ bl ’ your transcript • Please see next slide, student has 15 ECTS compensatable, – must repeat one of the compensatables ONLY along with failed t t f th t bl ONLY l ith f il d modules.   15. Progression to Third Year: B C B. Comm.(International) (Four Year) Degree (I i l) (F Y ) D • To progress to third year (year abroad) B.Comm. International Students must accumulate 50 of the 60 ECTS specified for Second Commerce International including at specified for Second Commerce International, including at least 15 ECTS in the relevant language. • All requirements of second year must be passed, before progressing to final year.   16. When will Coursework Marks be included? Year’s Work: A student must obtain 35% or more in the written end of semester examination before marks for Year’s Work may be added for his/her i ti b f k f Y ’ W k b dd d f hi /h benefit in determining the overall mark in the module. Where the mark in the final written exam is lower than 35%, the grade for the module will be determined by the LOWER of (i) the mark in the final written exam out of 100%, and (ii) the weighted combination of the final written exam and coursework marks.   17. B. Comm. Degree: Marks and Standards Degree Average: The overall degree mark to be derived from adding together 30% of the Second Year marks and 70% of the Final Year aggregate marks. J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics

  19. Change of Mind for Semester II Options • You can change your Semester II Options up to 3rd February online at www.nuigalway.ie/registration. Feb 3rd is the end of week 4 of semester. • Check your registration statement online, and if necessary change your Semester II Options between these dates Options between these dates. There will be NO CHANGES ALLOWED to modules after 3 rd February so • please ensure you check your module registration carefully. This is your responsibility. p y • Some optional modules have coursework requirements. For these you must register earlier – information will be provided for each module on individual g p blackboard sites. If you think you might like to take a module ensure you comply with the coursework requirements of that module even before Feb 3rd. Otherwise you may forfeit some marks for the module. J.E.
