If the sponsor of a clinical trial or study intends to qualify for
publication in a peer-reviewed or other journal the trial or study must first have its Protocol approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). The work of the IRB is to assure that proper ethical standards are maintained and that the safety and Informed Consent rights of participants are respected. This must occur prior to the start
The value added to IRB services by the Institute is that the Institute
works directly with the PI (Principle Investigator) to draft a scientifically valid and IRB-compliant trial or study Protocol.

The Affordable Care Act - Section 2706(a), prohibits insurers from discriminating against healthcare providers who are acting within their legal scope of practice. In this case the Insurer is saying it doesn’t have to cover “alternative” medicine for its policy holders, even though the health care is being delivered by an MD, advanced practice nurses and a naturopath, working under them. What this means is that this case may be a proper vehicle to test the extent of the ACA’s “provider nondiscrimination” clause — this case may set a precedent forcing insurers to cover holistic and integrative care!
