  2. Asian Disaster Preparedness Center Historical Overview Historical Overview Established in 1986 at the initiative of UNOCHA at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), in Thailand. Served as Outreach Center of AIT, 1986-1999. Became an independent foundation in July 1999. Attained Inter-governmental status in February 2005. 68 Staff, 18 Nationalities. Signing of MoU between AIT and UNDRO VISION: Safer communities and sustainable development through disaster reduction. MISSION: To reduce the impact of disasters on communities and countries in Asia and the Pacific by : raising awareness and enhancing knowledge and skills, strengthening sustainable institutional mechanisms, facilitating exchange of information, experience and expertise.

Asian Disaster Preparedness Center ADPC Highlights ADPC Highlights � 106 Partners: • 21 UN Partner Organizations including FAO, ITU, UNDP, and WHO • 85 Non-UN partners including AusAID, DANIDA,OFDA/ USAID,NOAA/USA, NORAD, SIDA, and SNV � ADPC Projects and Programmes: • 57 projects and programmes are implemented in close collaboration with a wide range of partners at local, provincial, national, regional and international levels. � ADPC Training Courses: • 30 training courses are being offered by ADPC to help strengthen the capacity of countries, organizations, communities and individuals to reduce the impact of disasters through enhancing their knowledge and skills to promote and adopt disaster reduction practices.
