  3. Students numbers and annual intake. Each year we have a total of approximately 220 enrolled students: • 25-30 on the Access course • 160 on the BA course (approx. 50-60 per year) • 25-30 on the MA courses NSCD has approximately 800 applicants each year across all courses. With up to 120 places to offer each year we offer 1 place to approximately every 7 applicants. #NSCDOpenDay

Who can apply and audition? • NSCD welcomes all applicants. • We audition all applicants. • Our audition process is designed to • enable you to assess whether this is the right institution and course for you. • enable us to assess your potential as a dance artist and your suitability for our courses. #NSCDOpenDay

  5. What are the entry requirements? Access to HE Diploma: Contemporary Dance Applicants should have successfully gained a minimum of four GCSEs (including English Language) at grade C or above, or from 2017 grade 4 and above, or equivalent qualifications. Places are offered to candidates demonstrating the greatest potential to benefit from the course regardless of their previous dance experience. BA (Hons) Dance (Contemporary) Entry is through successful audition and interview. Normally candidates should have gained two A Level passes or a BTEC National diploma or professional/ vocational training at an appropriate level and five GCSE passes at grade C or above (including English Language) or from 2017 Grade 4 or above. #NSCDOpenDay

Our auditions are carefully designed to be a positive experience: ‘The entire audition day was characterised by encouragement to challenge myself beyond my usual limitations and think in different ways .’ (2017 applicant quote) We include the key elements of our courses in our auditions: • Creative and improvisation tasks • Technique (contemporary and ballet) • Solo Performance (pre-prepared) • Group discussion/interview and post audition reflective writing task ‘It was so refreshing to experience an audition that allowed applicants to present a number of different skills to the panel and it was lovely to see people shine through at different points during the day .’ (2017 applicant quote) #NSCDOpenDay

  11. The selection process We make offers to those who show the greatest potential to benefit from our courses. For every section of the audition the Audition Panel will score each candidate as follows: 0 = a response to the tasks/movement material set which demonstrates insufficient ability to meet the demands of the course applied for at this time. 1 = a response to the tasks/movement material set which inconsistently demonstrates an ability to meet the demands of the course applied for at this time. 2 = a response to the tasks/movement material set which consistently demonstrates that the candidate would be able to meet the demands of the course applied for. 3 = a response to the tasks/movement material set which consistently demonstrates that the candidate would be able to achieve at a high level in relation to the demands of the course applied for. #NSCDOpenDay

  12. The selection process: when will you know the outcome? 1. We make our first shortlist after the creative, technique and pre-prepared solo sections of the audition. Those who are not shortlisted are welcome to request feedback by emailing admissions@nscd.ac.uk 2. If you are shortlisted at this stage you will be required to do a further creative task and take part in a group discussion. You will also be set a short reflective writing task to submit within a week of the audition. 3. Two weeks after the reflective writing task has been submitted all shortlisted candidates will be contacted by email with the audition outcome: a) A conditional offer subject to meeting the academic entry requirements b) A place on the shortlist with a conditional offer potentially being made at any point throughout or shortly after the audition period. Those on the shortlist who are not offered a place before or just after the final audition will automatically be placed on our reserve list. c) Unsuccessful on this occasion. Those who are not shortlisted are welcome to request feedback by emailing admissions@nscd.ac.uk We do not have a set quota that we shortlist each audition. To ensure fairness to all applicants, regardless of when they audition, we monitor the scoring patterns over a number of auditions before making the majority of our offers. #NSCDOpenDay
