  • State Regula*ons indicate that “Students in grade 8 shall have

the opportunity to take high school courses in mathema8cs and in at least one of the following areas: English, social studies, languages other than English, art, music, career and technical educa8on subjects, and science courses.”

  • Baldwinsville Central School District accelerates students in the

  • 85% final grade average in the previous course
  • 7th Grade Science
  • 7th Grade Mathema6cs
  • Le[er from Alex Ewing, Principal or Ray Middle School was

sent March 17, 2016 indica6ng eligibility to accelerate or not based on current In-progress Average.

  • Alex Ewing, Principal of Ray Middle School, has been

designated by the Superintendent of Schools to review individual 7th grade student records to determine if students meet the designated criteria.

  • At the end of the school year three results could occur:
  • No longer meet the criteria
  • Con6nue to meet the criteria
  • Now meet the criteria

Essential Understandings for Making a Decision

  • Taking a High School Course as an 8th grade student results in

the following:

  • Repor6ng the final course grade on the High School Transcript
  • Factoring the final course grade into the high school cumula6ve

grade point average (GPA).

  • Repor6ng the Regents Examina6on grade on the High School

Transcript (students may re-take the Regents Examina8on and have the highest score achieved reported)
