  4. Overhead conductors ACSR conductors This is most popular group of bi-material conductors. Structure of conductor consists of a steel core which is part of the carrier and the aluminium wire stranded of the same diameter. The strength of the cable consists of mechanical properties of steel and aluminium, but the electrical characteristics are provided only by the aluminium layer.

Overhead conductors AAC conductors AAC conductors are made entirely of aluminium wires with aluminium content min. 99.5%, thus giving the possibility of obtaining the electrical conductivity of the order of 61% IACS. Strength properties of this conductors stem with aluminium wires property. Structure of the conductor is made of round wires of the same diameter twisted coaxially. AAC conductors are widely used in urban areas where spans are usually short but high conductivity is required. The permissible operating temperature of the conductor is +80 ° C.

  9. Overhead conductors AAAC conductors In the AAAC conductors pure aluminium has been replaced by high- strength alloys based on aluminium (EN-AW 6101; EN-AW 6201 and others). The design of this group of conductors is analogous to the structure of the AAC. The consequence of the use of this alloys, is a high strength of wire and electrical conductivity of 57% IACS resulting from the use of AL2-AL8 wires. In addition, AAC conductors have a number of advantages, such as current carrying capacity higher than in case of ACSR, excellent corrosion resistance and the best weight-to-strength ratio among the wires. The permissible operating temperature of these conductors is +80 ° C.
