  • 1994: RANA Manufacturing

creates the TommyKnocker and Refuge One Air Centre

  • Refuge One Air Centre:

Provides and maintains a source of breathable air during an underground emergency

  • TommyKnocker: Provides a

Mobile Mine Refuge Chamber with a source of breathable air

  • 2016: ON2 Solutions purchases

RANA Manufacturing and continues to provide the same quality product and service

The Canadian Mine Safety Industry requested a breathable air system for underground Mine Refuge Stations based on the following criteria:

  • The Breathable Air System had to maintain Oxygen &

Carbon Dioxide levels near normal atmospheric conditions within the Refuge Station with a maximum

  • f 20 occupants for 24 hours.
  • It has to be able to operate during an emergency

without requiring any external compressed air or electricity.

slide-7
SLIDE 7

A Safe Haven for Miners

ON2 Mine Refuge Systems

Mine Safety Industry gave the following development criteria:

  • It was to be simple and easy to operate under stressful

emergency conditions.

  • It was to be durable and rugged enough to withstand

harsh underground mine conditions.

  • It was to be affordable so as to allow the

implementation of the technology to fit into a Mine’s safety program and budget.

How the Refuge One Air Centre Works

Carbon Dioxide levels elevate and oxygen levels deplete due to human occupancy The Refuge One Air Centre removes the carbon dioxide from the room and oxygen is added at a metered rate.

The Refuge One will

  • perate under it’s own

electrical power for the specified period of time (typically 36, 48, 72, or 96 hours).

Longer times and greater person capacities may be accommodated.

You must know the Refuge Station’s design criteria when providing the Refuge One Breathable Air Centres These include:

  • 1. The physical size of the Refuge Station?
  • 2. What is the maximum person capacity of the

Refuge Station?

  • 3. What is the required operational time of the

Refuge Station?
