  3. 1. Key facts (I) • Platform for wildlife monitoring integrating Copernicus and ARGOS data - Topic: Stimulating wider research use of Copernicus Sentinel Data - Type of action: Research and Innovation action - Action duration: 36 months - Action start: January 1 st 2016 - Grant amount: 2,6 MEur • 7 partners: Spain (1), France (3), and UK (3) - Industrial partners: technology and data providers; large-scale systems integration - Data banks (public agency and NGO): ensuring delivery of real requirements, complemented by SeaTurtle via Exeter University - Research institutions: data mining, data fusion services 3 EO4wildlife.eu

  4. 1. Key facts (II) • Objectives: - Architecture a system to access Sentinel EO data, ARGOS databases of archive and real time, thematic databank portals - Operational easy-to-use platform to query, search, mine and extract information from these different databases - Facilities to develop and run algorithms for dedicated data analytics, models and data visualization • Reference Scenarios: 1. “Live” management tools for seabirds for authorities (e.g. fisheries, shipping, Marine Protected Areas) to help them make real-time decisions to protect selected seabird species 2. Better knowledge of pelagic fish’s migrations routes and habitat use. The use case will focus more specifically on Blue fin tuna species in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic regions 3. Copernicus Sentinel data for MPAs managers and marine mammals data analysis . This use case will focus on protected marine species in French EEZ. 4 EO4wildlife.eu

  5. 2. Project Organisation 5 EO4wildlife.eu

  6. 3. Reference scenario on marine mammals and MPAs • This Use Case will focus on setting up tools for marine protected areas managers and scientists to : - help them predicting the distribution and aboundance of marine mammals and other protected marine species in MPAs ─ … via tools for cross analysing Sentinel oceanographic data with telemetry and observation data ─ provide them with reliable tools for surveillance on human activities in MPAs 6 EO4wildlife.eu

  7. 4. EO4wildlife platform • Implemented to enable access to the data, from local and remote data stores, processing capabilities and the panel of EO4wildlife user services - To translate user requirements into an actual set of platform requirements - To coordinate and implement the user interface/front end in an iterative fashion guided by the users’ feedback - To implement, develop and deploy the platform - To integrate the toolbox modules onto the platform - To interoperate the platform with different data and processing sources - To operate the platform for the different scenarios 7 EO4wildlife.eu

  8. 4. EO4wildlife platform - SparkInData Thematic Services Approach Federation and interoperable approach  based on open standards Technological solutions driven by use  case requirements State of the art elastic solutions  Highly customizable solutions  A multi-sided market business model  EO4wildlife.eu 8
