  3. Center for Veterans Issues, Ltd. MISSION The Center for Veterans Issues provides supportive services to improve the quality of life of current and ex-military personnel.

  5. 539 Homeless Veterans, 2012 199 Milwaukee Madison Racine 280 BoS 25 35 Wisconsin BoS ranks #8 among all states for total veteran homelessness. This demonstrates a rural dimension to homelessness which contrasts with national trends.

  6. The Center for Veterans Issues, Ltd. VETS Place Milwaukee Programs owns and operates the following programs in Southeastern Wisconsin. Each is designed to meet the varying needs of homeless and low-income veterans. • VETS Place Central • 72 Bed transitional housing and holistic service center for homeless veterans • 16 Permanent Housing Unit - Single Room Occupancy Only • VETS Place MLK • 12 Bed transitional housing and services for homeless veterans • VETS Place North and VETS Place Park Hill • 11 Single Rooms- Low-income permanent housing for veterans • VETS Place Boudicca House • 15 Bed transitional housing and services for homeless females vets with children under the age of seven

VETS Place Central On-Site Services: • Case management • Education, Training and Employment (ETE) Services • Addiction therapy • Counseling • Life skills training • Access to VA Medical, Mental Health care, and AODA services • Veterans benefits and entitlement counseling • Three hot meals per day • Transportation • Volunteer Program (Veterans United for Community Service - VUCS)

OTHER HOUSING OPTIONS • Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Permanent housing in which supportive services are provided to assist homeless persons with a disability to live independently Operation Turning Point – Milwaukee - 33 apartments totaling 48 beds Veterans Manor – Milwaukee - 52 single bedroom apartments Veterans Gardens – Milwaukee - 30 family-size apartments in duplexes

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES • Assists lower income veteran families who are homeless or at- risk of homelessness • Provides financial and non-financial support services • Security deposit, rent, arrears, utility • Claims/benefits, employment services, legal, counseling, peer support, PTSD and AODA groups • 448 families assisted in 2012 in Wisconsin • Prevented over 140 evictions • Mean financial assistance $670 per family

  10. HUD/VASH PROGRAM • Partnership between HUD, VA, public housing authorities • Purpose: To end chronic homelessness among veterans and their families • Housing voucher with case management provided by VA • Veteran pays 30% of income for rent • 47,000 vouchers nationwide through FY2012
