Evangelism Is A Lot Like Farming!

He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain – first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.

What Field Workers Should Do

Our job is to get the seed in the soil!

Mark 4:26, NIV

What Field Workers CANNOT Do

You and I cannot cause the seed to sprout and grow!

Mark 4:27-28, NIV

Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain…

1 Corinthians 3:7, NLT

It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.

Both Farming & Evangelism Take Time!

Just as plants grow and fruit ripens gradually…. so also there is a process in coming to trust in Jesus.

Evangelism Also Takes Teamwork!

Often, different field workers are involved in the various stages of the development process.

John 4:36-38 & 1 Corinthians 3:8, NLT

“What joy awaits both the planter and the harvester alike! You know the saying, ‘One plants and another harvests.’ And it’s true. I sent you to harvest where you didn’t plant; other had already done the work, and now you will get to gather the harvest.” The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.
