Districts are NOT REQUIRED to provide transportation for students.*

• However, if a School District provides

transportation for its students, then it must provide transportation for all private school students within the District and up to 10 miles from the nearest geographical point on the District’s border.

• Distance can be more for Vocational Schools,

Homeless, Foster and other Special cases.

• K-8: Maximum of 1.5 miles on Public Roads
• 9-12: Maximum of 2.0 miles on Public Roads
• All Grades: Maximum of 500 feet in

PennDot-determined Hazardous Road Conditions If the District transports students who live closer than those distances, it does not receive partial state reimbursement.

location of students, as well as identifying the riders if an accident occurs.
