INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF NEPHROLOGY

Why a ‘Global Education’ Strategy?

Traditionally ISN has developed a series of largely unrelated events, publications and

  • nline learning opportunities for its members, which are applied opportunistically rather

than strategically. ISN believes that it is time to develop an integrated educational strategy based on:

  • Strategic Priorities of ISN adopted the Executive Committee and Council to advance

ISN’s mission

  • A thorough engagement with stakeholders to understand regional education priorities.

Timeline of GE Strategy: 3 years

slide-19
SLIDE 19

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF NEPHROLOGY

  • OBJECTIVE 1: Consolidate ISN’s “philanthropic” work in low and middle income countries

(current grants, programs & initiatives) and address the needs of the regions/ countries which benefit less from ISN support

  • OBJECTIVE 2: Evaluate and articulate ISN’s value proposition for high income countries, by

end of 2018 –

  • OBJECTIVE 3: Review existing educational activities and develop an integrated educational
  • ffering to address the needs of the nephrology community within the various regions
  • OBJECTIVE 4: Review existing research activities and develop an integrated set of research
  • fferings to raise the profile of ISN in the scientific community, in 2020 –
  • OBJECTIVE 5: Design and validate an impact assessment method for activities of ISN, by end

2020 -

  • Issue: Membership in HICs has been gradually declining for the last 3 years. Also,

younger renal HCP are less inclined to want to become part of a member society.

  • Question: How do we rebuild our membership in these areas and continue to

The first ISN Global Kidney Health Summit was attended by a selected group of international key opinion leaders and researchers. They met in Vancouver, Canada in July 2016 to set in motion a roadmap for action to change the status of kidney health worldwide, building on current knowledge, research and clinical activities. The second summit was held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in March 2018 to design a global action plan to address the unmet needs of patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD).

Overview

  • The ISN has recently conducted a research exercise on the status
  • f care for kidney patients across all countries of the world

published in its Global Kidney Health Atlas (GKHA).

  • As from 2019, the GKHA will be conducted in a four-year cycle to

track progress of nations on the capacity for kidney care across the spectrum. ISN GKHA: Preparations for 2019 Version

  • This second iteration of the survey by the ISN is aimed at defining

specifically the current global status of End-stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) care structures and organization towards achieving universal access to renal replacement therapy (RRT).
