  3. Development Services Queensborough Community Plan Completion  Document created and draft versions circulated in the community

  4. Development Services City-Wide Official Community Plan Review  Commenced review of the City’s Official Community Plan

  5. Development Services New Vision for New Westminster’s Waterfront Working with collaboratively with the landowner Larco, a new vision for the City’s waterfront was created through a new master plan.

  6. Development Services Secured Market Rental Housing Plan Secured Market Rental Housing Plan is adopted by Council  Significant interest in the policy, with about 400 units currently in the development approvals process .

  7. Development Services • 22 rezoning applications; 7 SDPs and 17 DPs Glass House Lofts Trapp + Holbrook Tower Viceroy

  8. Development Services • 573 building permits issued in 2013 • Building permit value: $209 M • 4000 business licenses issues; 4% increase

  9. Electrical Operations  Electrical Operations staff responded to 50 system disturbances (power outages), removed 110 meters of overhead primary and secondary infrastructure at the 700 block of Front Street and accomplished an estimated 80% of the maintenance management activities (MMA)

  10. Electrical Services  Electrical Services staff responded to 130 traffic signal problem reports and 12 MVA’s involving city infrastructure, completed all electric meter activities as required by the Measurement Canada Compliance Sampling Program and completed 100% of our maintenance management activities (MMA)

  11. Electrical Engineering Design & Planning  15 developments were energized and staff replaced 1km of overhead 12kV distribution with underground distribution,  Notable projects include: The Viceroy - 608 Belmont St/625 Fifth Ave The Trapp Block - 668 Columbia Street Port Metro Ph. 1 - 501 Boyd Street

  12. Engineering  Transportation Planning issues included: Master Transportation Plan; The Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project; Goods Movement

  13. Engineering Ewen Avenue Reconstruction  Improving community accessibility including greenway construction and street lighting improvements. Royal Avenue Paving  Reconstruction to strengthen pavement structure

  14. Engineering Whistle Cessation and other Rail safety improvements  Prioritized three rail crossings in the Downtown  Working with Southern Railway and the Port Metro on improvements in Queensborough and Quayside  Establishment of rail advisory committee

  15. Engineering Fraser Cemetery Enhancement – Phase 2  Construction of two columbaria walls offering many interment options and continued revenue.

  16. Engineering  Installation of digital media program at four sites  Providing annual revenue stream to the City

  17. Finance & Information Technology Information Technology  PC / Laptop Replacement - Successfully replace all 400+ PCs in 2013 - New Laptops/Tablets purchased for deployment in Q1 2014

  18. Finance & Information Technology Information Technology  Intelligent City Initiative - Intelligent City Advisory Committee established in Feb 2013 - Intelligent City Roadmap currently being developed - Citywide Fiber Network plan RFP tendered.

  19. Finance & Information Technology Information Technology  City WiFi – Shaw Agreement - Shaw Wi-Fi Collaboration agreement signed - Shaw has installed Wi-Fi Hot spots in most City’s public facilities (Library, Arenas, City Hall etc) - Shaw has begun installation of wireless Access Points along some streets and corridors

  20. Finance & Information Technology Collection Services  Customer online E-billing solution for electrical, water, sewer & solid waste utilities

  21. Finance & Information Technology Purchasing  Update Procurement Policy & Procedures  Reflect best practices  Align with new procurement legislation  Streamline processes while enhancing oversight

  22. Fire & Rescue Services Hazardous Materials Response Team • In October 2013, Council approved a recommendation to broaden the scope of NWFRS service delivery to include increased response capability to Hazmat incidents. • NWFRS will be expanding their scope of practice and service delivery model to include response to Hazardous Materials incidents including drug labs, motor vehicle incidents and rail car emergencies.

  23. Fire & Rescue Services Homesafe Program • Home Safety Program is a free comprehensive home safety check that identifies fire and injury hazards in the home as well as the installation of smoke alarms where needed. • The goal of the program is for residents to become aware of potential hazards in their home and take precautions to reduce or limit fire and/or injury.

  24. Fire & Rescue Services Arson Investigation Task Force • NWFRS is leading the development of an integrated arson task force including NWPD, Delta Police, Delta Fire and Coquitlam Fire. • The task force will enhance the investigations and reduce duplication of efforts as well as gaining experience from each department’s contribution to the program.

  25. Fire & Rescue Services New Apparatus • In October 2013, NWFRS took delivery of a new Rescue truck. • The truck has an expanded ability to carry our structural collapse equipment. • This brings the majority of the fleet up to modern standards.

  26. Human Resources  Concluded negotiating a new two-year collective agreement with IAFF Local 256  Continued work-related learning for employee and organizational growth

  27. Human Resources  Implemented the Safe Harbour Program in the City of New Westminster  Achieved significant recruiting goals including a new Chief Administrative Officer and Director, Development Services

  28. Legislative Services  Delivered 103 meetings of City Council, including agenda package preparation, minute-taking, and follow-up  Delivered a Council meeting at the newly-opened Queensborough Community Centre, including TV and web broadcasting

  29. Legislative Services  Provided coordination and minute-taking for 116 Committee meetings  Conducted recruitment and provided orientation, advice and support for 35 Council committees

  30. Legislative Services  Integrated New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service’s records into the City’s electronic document management system

  31. Library - NewToBC  The NWPL joined 9 other Metro Vancouver libraries to launch NewToBC  Funded by the Province of BC, this program helps new immigrants find information they need as they become part of our community  The most popular feature of the program is the web site, which offers library and community information in one easy-to-use location  Starting in 2014 NewToBC will expand to other libraries in BC

  32. Library - Radio Frequency Identification  The library has started a Pilot Project in QB to test RFID Self Check technology  RFID allows many items to be checked out at once, and allows staff to easily inventory items on the shelf  If successful, RFID would move to the Uptown Library in 2015

  33. Library - Photo Contest  To celebrate the opening of our 1 st branch library, we invited local shutterbugs to enter our Photo Contest  With the theme of My New West inspiring them, contestants submitted an astonishing range of photos, all highlighting the diversity and beauty of our City.  Contest winner Tatum Wulff captured the relaxed lifestyle of the River Market and the Quay Boardwalk

  35. Parks Culture & Recreation Community Engagement  Queen’s Park Master Plan Adopted  Off-Leash Dog Strategy Started  Participation in School District building projects  Arts Programming

  36. Parks Culture & Recreation Parks  Significant progress on GIS cataloguing of Parks Infrastructure (irrigation, street trees, furnishings, etc.)  Brunette Creek revitalization by means of partnerships (i.e. Evergreen & Metro Vancouver) and volunteers
