Zsebok Winery (Zsebok Pincészet)

We are traditional wine maker family from Hungary, Balatonfüred- Csopak wine

  • region. Our history goes back to 1636 AD when Peter Zsebok was honoured by King

Ferdinand with Coates of arms and land. This was due to his bravery in a battles and

  • wars. Since then the family is cultivating grapes and making wine of course.

Zsebok family continuously lived in Alsóörs village, located at the north shore of Balaton lake, and improving wine making process when possible. They have owned a wine press from the 1848 and kept it in the old cellar and that press is now held at the tasting premises. It is also listed at a local museum as an exhibit with official

  • number. In year 1942 this wine press was still used in the process.

After the World War II when the communism arrived with Russians, government took all property from the family for the “cooperative target” without any

  • compensation. During the Middle European political changes in 1993, the family

claimed back the part of the historically owned land and property from the government, and after 40 years of absence they begin the wine production again. Now, the winery is well established and produce five types of popular and traditional Hungarian wine, which are Riesling, Szürkebarát (Pinot Girs), Chardonnay, Zenit and the late harvest Pirostramini (Gewurtztraminer). So there is a little story to reflect on, while enjoying a glass of our wine and you are more than welcome to do so at Zsebok family tasting house.

Lover Winery: Sopron Wine Region

Our Wine Region is one of the oldest traditionally cultivated in Hungary. The wine making and grape culture is based on the ancient Celtics and Romans historical

  • ways. It was regarded as one of the most significant in the country, and whose

trading relationships linked to abroad. Since the 19th century, the german speaking farmers made the Sopron Wines far famous. It is typical in the city, that the built the wine cellars not in the vineyards, but in the city, under their own

  • houses. This meant not only privilege, but bigger security and safety for

winemakers as well. A sign of the improvement is the ‘The City of Grape and Wine’ title, donated by the International Viniculture Office in 1987. Since 2000, the Kőszeg area joined the the Sopron Wine Region, with a total of 259 hectare grapes. The Sopron disctrict is a unique land in Carpathian Basin, on the bottom of the Alps, next to Lake Fertő and the Sopron- Vasi flatland. The most valuable area is the slopes by the Lake Fertő , these hills take 1500 hectare of land. The Lake and the surrounding villages belong to the World Heritage List since 2001. During the time of the Monarchy the Sopron-Ruszt-Bratislava created one wine district with similar kinds of grapes and

  • cultivation. The infections were killing the vineyards made the areas to develop into different directions. In Sopron in

the 1800s the white wine was typical. The characteristic wine of the region, the Kékfrankos came forward after the

  • 1890ies. Nowadays Ruszt is known for white wines and aszu (Ausbruch), and Sopron is famous for blue grapes, typically

Kékfrankos. Others species are zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The most common white wines are Green Veltelini, Chardonnay, Tramini, Zenit, Sauvignon Blanc and the Early red Veltelini. The local climate also benefits the late harvest dessert wines. These wines are available since 16th century. Now history: the first bottled ‘Kékfrankos of Sopron’ was sold by a wine trader Mihály Jäger in the 30ies of the last century. By now it became a brand, a legend

Lover Winery (Lőver Pince)

Ignac Flandorffer established the winery in 1863. He was very active during his live time. His wines have been honoured with French Legion of Honour, He himself was awarded with a civilian honours from Australia and for his charity activities the Pope made him a member of St.Gregory knights. Also Franciscans, the Hungarian- Austrian emperor honoured him with a coats of arms. This picture illustrates some of the awards received by Lővér Pince over the years, both local and more prestigious international competitions. One of the reason for its superior quality is the nearby Ferto lake which is on UNESCO Heritage list, so they cannot use commercial fertilizers, making it one step closer to nature. This is the panoramic picture from the cellars which I must say, are quite special. That includes invisible, which is the river which flows underneath it, giving the cellars natural

  • cooling. And there’s nothing like a taste of a good vintage served by a cellar wine master.

Schiszler – Bor Kft: Kunsag Wine Region

Hungary's biggest wine region encompasses 97 towns and villages and covers approximately 24,400 hectares

  • f land in the Great Plains. In the past the Kunság wine region has been allied by enterprise geared towards

mass production, although recent successes by local wine makers are starting to reverse this trend. The region is characterized by an extreme climate, where the uneven distribution of rain and spring and autumn frosts can damage the vines. A wide variety of grapes are planted in the region, producing lighter wines with harmonic composition. Grape Varieties Some of the original varieties like Kövidinka, Ezerjó, Izsáki and Kadarka are now grown by smaller vineyards

  • nly while Rajnai Riesling, Cserszegi fűszeres, Kékfrankos, Zweigelt, Italian Riesling (Olaszrizling), Rizlingszilváni
