Do you know why Jumuah is a special day for Muslims? 4
Come with me and learn a little about Jumuah and how to prepare for the Jumuah prayer, a very important part of the day… 5
If you speak English, you call the 6 th day of the week, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Friday. 6
In Arabic, the language of Islam, the sixth day of the week is called . . . Jumuah 7
The word Jumuah comes from a word which means To gather 8
Muslims around the world gather every Jumuah at the masjid*. *Masjid = mosque: a place of worship 9
Allah knows best why He chose Friday as this day of gathering. . . 10
Some say that it is because this was the day that creation was finished…..* *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 11
Whatever the reason may be, there are some very important events that have happened or will happen on a Jumuah… 12
Allah created Adam, the first man, on a Jumuah… *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 13
Adam was placed in Jannah (Paradise) on a Friday…. (And was also taken out of Jannah on a Friday…) *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 14
The Day of Judgment will be on a Friday… 15
There is an hour on Jumuah where “no faithful servant asks Allah for something, but Allah will give him what he asked for…” *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 16
Jewish people take Saturday as their holy day . . . Christians take Sunday as their holy day . . . 17
These previous nations were “informed about Friday” but chose different days. Abu Hurayrah (radia Allahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but the first on the Day of Resurrection, though the former nations were given the Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them, but they differed about it. So, Allah gave us guidance to it, and all other people are coming after us: the Jews tomorrow and the Christians the day after tomorrow. “ (Muslim & Bukhari) 18
Why do we gather on Jumuah? 19
We gather together on Jumuah to worship Allah. We listen to a khutbah (speech) given by the Imam to remind us of Allah and about our worship to Him (Allah). 20
How do we know that Jumuah is the day for this gathering? Allah tells us in the Quraan…… O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the Salât on Friday (Jumuah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allâh and Salât and leave off business.. That is better for you if you did but know! 62:9 21
As we are going to the masjid to pray on Jumuah, we know that we must have wudhu … But there are other special preparations that we should make for Jumuah…… 22
It is recommended on Jumuah that we…… 23
1. Make Ghusl (take a bath) *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 24
2. Wear our best clothes *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 25
3. Apply perfume (oil) *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 26
4. Use miswak (a tooth stick) *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 27
5. Leave the house early *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 28
6. Sit close to the Imam *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 29
7. Listen…… Without talking x *Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir Suratul Jumuah 30
When you are finished getting ready for Jumuah, make your way to the masjid… (Whoever performs Ghusl on the day of Jumu`ah, leaves early, walking not riding, and sits close to the Imam and listens without talking, will earn the reward of fasting and performing standing (in prayer) for an entire year for every step he takes.) (Muslim, Bukhari) 31
When the adhaan for Jumuah is called, 32
We must leave off from buying and selling… O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salât on Friday, come to the remembrance of Allâh and leave off business. That is better for you if you did but know! 62:9 33
At the masjid, the Imam will give two khutbahs (speeches) reminding us about our worship to Allah… 34
Then we pray a prayer of two rakaat….. 35
When the prayer is over, we may go back to our usual business . . Then when the Salât is ended, you may disperse through the land, and seek the bounty of Allâh, and remember Allâh much, that you may be successful. 62:10 36
