O que são Expressões Idiomáticas?

As expressões idiomátjcas (idiomatjc expressions) também conhecidas como “idioms” são palavras que quando estão em uma determinada frase tem um signifjcado diferente das defjnições individuais de cada uma no dicionário de inglês, ou seja é uma frase feita cujo sentjdo não tem muito ou nada a ver com o sentjdo de cada uma das palavras que a formam.

COLOR IDIOMS

• 1. Green with envy– FICAR COM MUITO CIÚME

Example: “Katie was green with envy when she saw you got a new car for your birthday.”

• 2. Gray area– ALGO QUE NÃO É CLARO / INDEFINIDO

Example: The issue of allowing mobile phones in the classroom is a gray area right now- it could go either way.

• 3. Once in a blue moon– MUITO RARAMENTE

Example: “Once in a blue moon you will see that mean professor smile.”
