Pathology of Environmental Health

— Environmental conditions, personal hygiene,

crowding lack of infrastructures (i.e., running water and improper sewage systems) increase risk of infectious diseases.

— A main cause of morbidity and mortality in

developing populations is diarrheal illness.

Gary Water System

— The Arava Institute is proposing an alternative solution for

wastewater management in which is decentralized or off-grid sewage management.

— The proposal is to connect village neighborhoods to onsite

wastewater treatment and reuse systems.

— In this way sewage is treated safely without the need for

expensive and complex infrastructure and the community benefits from an additional source of water for local agriculture.

— As a first stage in our project we are reaching out to all relevant

stakeholders to receive their input on the decentralized approach to wastewater management.
