Prohibition Against Meal Shaming

What

➢ MEAL SHAMING IS PROHIBITED

➢ Schools must develop a written anti-shaming plan that meets all required criteria ➢ Note: Schools/Districts will no longer be able to refuse a meal or limit students to an alternate meal

➢All schools/districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program or School Breakfast Program ➢Except schools/districts serving meals at no charge (e.g., Community Eligibility Provision)

Next xt Steps

  • If adopted at the September 2018 Board meeting, the emergency rule will

become effective September 18, 2018.

  • The proposed amendment will be posted in the State Register for a 60-day

public comment period.

  • The Department anticipates presenting the proposed rule to the Board for

permanent adoption at the January 2019 meeting.

  • Because the emergency regulation will expire before the January 2019

Board meeting, it is anticipated that an additional emergency action will be presented for adoption at the December 2018 Board meeting.
