Key things to know about the new Mathematics GCSE

1.It’s bigger

  • There is more content in both the Higher and

Foundation tiers.

  • The higher tier in particular stretches pupils to prepare

them for A Level Mathematics

  • 2. The assessment objectives have

changed

  • There is more emphasis on problem solving and

interpreting

  • Greater emphasis is placed on assessing skills in Algebra

Formulae will now mostly need to be memorised. A question may provide specific formulae if required but it will assume the student knows the basic ones. Hand out provided with key formulae to memorise
