WWF proposal : present, review, ratchet (and repeat)

Present: putting forward national biodiversity actions based on strengthened NBSAPs aligned with the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and its global targets. Review: reviewing the implementation of the framework with updated national reports, and then regularly assessing progress during a global biodiversity stocktake. Ratchet: strengthening the delivery of biodiversity plans and actions, to progressively close the implementation gap. 1 2 3

The implementation mechanism, an integral part of the post-2020 framework: some suggestions

Provide significant space for implementation, including the implementation mechanism, in the discussions and negotiations for the adoption of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. Use the thematic consultation to:

  • Outline the key components of an effective implementation mechanism to be

delivered at COP15;

  • Ensure a shared understanding on terminologies pertaining to the implementation

mechanism;

  • Lay out a clear roadmap on how best to use the in-sessional and inter-sessional period to

achieve concrete deliverables at COP15. Connect the implementation mechanism to the other aspects of implementation, including resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement.
