MISSION BASICS WHO IS THIRST MISSIONS? A non-denominational Christian mission company based out of Forest Lake, MN.
MISSION BASICS “When your group attends a mission trip with thirst missions, you aren’t just going on another mission trip. You will be partnering with a local church and pastor who are looking for a mission team with your chosen ministries to serve alongside… Our trips are about quality over quantity. Quality of ministry, quality of relationships, and quality of congregations and pastors you will be partnering with. Thirst Missions has a staff of 2-4 on every trip who are with your group, taking care of logistics and guiding you through the trip. It is our goal to partner with you to provide opportunities for your group to minister, keep everyone safe, to guide the trip in cultural areas, and to serve your group by taking care of all the behind- the-scenes details. Thirst Missions has led over 400 trips and 8,000 participants since its inception.”
MISSION BASICS HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON ALASKA INSTEAD OF A WARMER LOCATION? Locality, affordability, and humility.
MISSION BASICS LOCALITY // Despite being over 1,500 miles away, Alaska is still considered the “Pacific Northwest.” Alaskans are fellow brothers and sisters in our own backyard, yet they face significantly more adversity than we do. AFFORDABILITY // The cost to go on mission to Alaska is roughly half that of any other mission destination. HUMILITY // It’s important for us to recognize that mission trips are not about us “helping” people - they are about us SERVING our brothers and sisters. It’s not about getting that instagram-perfect photo, surrounded by a bunch of stereotypically “poor-looking” children in the middle of a dusty field. Alaska may be a bit less glamorous of a mission location than something like Ecuador or Haiti, but the work is just as important, and often goes unnoticed and underserved.

MISSION BASICS WHAT KINDS OF MISSION WORK WILL WE BE DOING? Thirst allows each team to tailor service projects to their group’s specific gifts and talents.

MISSION BASICS DO WE HAVE ANY TIME FOR RECREATION ON MISSION? Yes! Midweek recreation includes hiking & kayaking, and our final day is spent on a 5-hour, 140-mile glacier cruise.
MISSION BASICS HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? $1,500 for airfare, housing, food, transportation, & recreation.
MISSION BASICS PAYMENT SCHEDULE First Payment = 25% of total cost due November 1st Second Payment = 25% of total cost due January 15th Third Payment = 50% of total cost due June 1st

MISSION BASICS AM I TOO OLD TO GO ON MISSION? ARE MY KIDS TOO YOUNG TO GO ON MISSION? If you are mobile, then you aren’t too old! All youth who have completed 8th grade by summer 2018 are welcome.
MISSION BASICS HOW AND WHEN DO I REGISTER? Registration forms will be available on the parish website beginning September 1st.
REGISTRATION CLOSES ON SEPTEMBER 30TH. ABSOLUTELY NO REGISTRATIONS CAN BE SUBMITTED AFTER THIS DATE. FINAL NUMBERS WILL BE TURNED IN THE MORNING OF OCTOBER 1ST.
MISSION BASICS WHAT IF I HAVE TO DROP OUT FOR SOME REASON? Costs may be refunded up to 2 months prior to our trip date. 50% of the cost is refundable up to 2 weeks prior to our trip date. After that point, the cost is non-refundable, but 100% transferrable.

MISSION FORMATION ASIDE FROM FUNDRAISING, WHAT OTHER PRE-TRIP EXPECTATIONS ARE THERE? We will meet once a month leading up to mission for practical preparation and spiritual formation.
MISSION FORMATION ASIDE FROM FUNDRAISING, WHAT OTHER PRE-TRIP EXPECTATIONS ARE THERE? Additionally, each month we will rotate between a fundraiser and a service project.
ALTHOUGH YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR QUARTERLY SERVICE PROJECTS, THERE WILL BE MANY OTHER SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR WHICH YOU ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.

MISSION FORMATION IS THERE ANY WAY TO STILL BE INVOLVED IF I AM UNABLE TO COME ON THE MISSION TRIP? YES! We will be recruiting an intercessory team to pray for each of our missionaries throughout the year, and especially the week of mission.
MISSION FORMATION WHAT’S THE NEXT STEP I SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER LEAVING THIS MEETING? I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED!
#1 PRAY THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN KNOW IF GOD IS CALLING YOU TO THIS MISSION IS TO ASK HIM. SET ASIDE SOME TIME TO SIT BEFORE THE LORD TO DISCERN HIS WILL FOR YOU IN THIS MATTER.
