Still unclear what reopening will look like We are working on plans as quickly as we can We have plenty of food and administration funds to keep WIC
- perating smoothly
Food supplies are stable Stores are open WIC is open and proving that remote services WORK! State budget is tight. WIC is federally funded so we hope we will not see impact.

Food Updates
Food item Rationale Eggs
- Allowed: brown, cage free and
- rganic eggs
- Not allowed: Pasture raised
and eggs with Omega-3 and or DHA
- In the early days of COVID there was wide spread shortages of eggs. We
expanded the list to include brown, cage free and organic eggs. Many clients are now buying these foods and they are widely
- available. Removing them at this point in time would cause confusion
for retailors and participants.
- We didn’t add Pasture raised and eggs with Omega-3 and or DHA due to
cost and limited availability. Yogurt
- Allowed: Greek yogurt
- Whole milk yogurt for children
age 1 or participants with a MDF for whole milk yogurt
- Not allowed: Organic yogurt
- We added Greek yogurt due to requests for this product and to increase
buying options for participants.
- We didn’t add organic yogurt due to some products being very high cost.
Milk
- Not allowed: Organic milk and
A2 milk
- We didn’t add organic milk due to cost.
- We didn’t add A2 milk because the container size is only 59 oz.

List of Currently Eligible High Risk Participants Report
Washington State Department of Health | 22
High Risk Designation in Cascades
Currently Active status at time the report is run. Designated as high risk
- At certification, the participant has a nutrition risk that puts them
in a high risk status.
- At certification, the participant isn’t high risk based on the nutrition
risk(s) selected. Using professional discretion, the certifier selects the “High Risk” radio button on the Certification Summary screen before selecting the Certify button.
- Participant wasn’t certified as high risk, however, a nutrition risk was
identified later in the certification that designates a high risk status.

HR Appointment Types
Three RD appointment types:
- Registered Dietitian (RD)
- MSS-RD
- Nutrition Education–RD (NE-RD)
Cascades doesn’t decipher:
- If appointment completed was really an RD appointment.
- If staff use the RD appointment types for other types of
appointments for the RD.
- If a high risk care plan was actually written in the
participant’s file.

Sample of Report
Washington State Department of Health | 25
Consider:
Using only RD appointment types for High Risk appointments with the RD. Canceling the RD appointment and adding participant as a walk-in if the participant isn’t receiving a HR appointment. Adding an alert when HRCP is written.
