  • 2. What can we help you with?

What can a Go Green Team member help you with? ■ We’re here for many reasons.

Help and advice when it comes to your waste, whether it is recycling, food waste, or general mixed waste; we can even interpret the waste returns report! Help you with environmental issues (, reporting a waste incident, for example, what should you do if you find a television in the general mixed waste? Or reduce your client’s energy bill’s : we have ideas on how to save energy and water.) We will help you implement the corporate plan - BTP 2020 We will encourage other members of Sodexo to get involved at work but also at home We will help to provide that assistance to create a more environmentally friendly company,

What have the Go Green Team done since we started last year?

We wowed the Exec and managers at the regional managers conference 2014 (with our displays, games and quizzes.) We introduced Every can counts. (Every part of a drinking can is recyclable and can be infinitely recycled without any loss of quality, it is a great item to remove from landfill.) We got you all involved in WasteLESS week! (Having a Go Green Team member on each site, they are there to actively encourage employees and managers to participate; even to assist the site managers to present the findings to the clients and customers). We love what we do! (Every one on the team is enthusiastic, friendly, and each member is always looking for room to improve or to provide feedback what’s working and what’s not)

What are the Go Green Team doing at the moment? ■ We meet every two months (to discuss our

progress, share ideas, and to offer advice to each other.)

■ We save you money(Each site is currently

collating information on deliveries throughout the month. (Since we have started, we have helped to reduce deliveries in some sites, this has helped reduce the carbon foot print, but also reduce over-ordering and wastage from unused products.)

■ We save our customers and client money ■ We have insider information to help you with

your ideas. We have visited 5 different units, the Material Recovery Facilities (MRF) in Taunton and the Anaerobic Digester (AD) in Walpole to see just how our waste is sorted and used once again for another product.

All that time we spend walking just that little bit further to the recycling bin, is it really worth it? ■ Of course it is! By placing that newspaper or

plastic bottle into the recycling bin, it will stop that from going to landfill. If it ends up in landfill, it will take years for it to break down, whilst it is breaking down it is producing harmful gasses that are being released into the ozone, thus destroying it.

■ Placing a glass bottle into landfill could take

millions of years to degrade, yet placing it into a glass recycling bin will help turn it into another bottle, or more impressively TARMAC FOR ROADS!

What does a MRF centre look like?

11 – Go Green Team - Environmental Project Presentation 2015

All waste is placed at the start of a conveyor belt that helps sort it into size and weight, this is then fed up the belt to ‘pickers’ who will sort the waste into the categories, which is then bundled up at the end for recycling.

Why can’t I just throw my food waste in the bin or down the waste disposal units like we used to? ■ Waste disposal units are great, but

unfortunately they do have some adverse effects; too much starch and fats at once and it can kill off all that good bacteria at the treatment plants that help break down all the

  • waste. Add into the mix the amount of water

used to wash it down, this soon has a huge impact.

■ By your food waste going to an AD site, it will

be turned into electricity, gas and even a nutrients rich compost to put back into the farmlands.

All waste is placed into the machine to sieve out the larger items that will be placed into another machine to break it down, all this is fed through multiple devices to help break this down. The waste will help to produce liquids, solids and gasses that can be used again.
