Here are summarised points of the text. It is really important that you understand the story before we embark on any work!

Macbeth is a successful general in King Duncan‛s Scottish army. Malcolm and Donalbain (King Duncan's sons) are suspicious

  • f Macbeth but flee Scotland

to save their lives. Macbeth carries out the deed and kills Duncan. After victory in a battle, he and his best friend Banquo meet three witches who predicts that Macbeth will become king. Macbeth realises that Banquo and his son must also die. Macbeth hires two murderers who kill Banquo but the son manages to escape. Macbeth visits the witches a second time who continue to make predictions about his future.

Even though Macbeth is now king, he is consumed with guilt and sees Banquo's ghost. Macduff is suspicious of Macbeth and leaves to find Malcolm.

When Lady Macbeth hears of this she persuades her husband to murder Duncan and seize power. Macduff and Malcolm declare war against Macbeth and defeat him. Malcolm is then crowned king.
