  2. What Do Pets Need to be Healthy and Happy? For my research I selected the essential question, “What do pets need to be healthy and happy?” This question interested me because my family and I are thinking of getting a new pet and I want to know more about the things a new pet would need. I also want to research what kinds of pets there are and how to take care of pets.

  3. Responsibilities of Pet Owners Being a pet owner is a big responsibility. There are many things you have to do to take care of a pet. You have to make sure it has the right kind of food to eat and plenty of water to drink. Pets need a safe, quiet place to sleep. Sometimes pets get sick and you have to help them feel better. Pets also need fun things to do so they can play and exercise. Most of all pets need to be loved and cared for. You have to be responsible to be a pet owner!

  4. Kinds of Pets I didn’t know there are so many kinds of pets to choose from! If you want to have a pet you can run with and play fetch with, you can get a dog. Dogs are very playful. If you like smaller pets that like to cuddle and climb on things a cat would be just right for you. If you want a pet that lives in a cage but you can still take out to play with a hamster or rabbit might be the perfect pet for you. Maybe you would like a pet that lives in a tank. Then you can get a frog or fish. Fish are very colorful and soothing to watch. Whatever pet you choose, make sure you know how to take care of it and you love it. That’s how you keep it happy and healthy.

  5. Am I responsible enough to have a pet? While researching I discovered that I am responsible enough to meet the needs of a pet dog. After researching, I now know that having a pet dog means that I need to take them for walks, give them fresh food and water, and make sure they get to the veterinarian. I can take my dog for walks before and after school. This will give them exercise and an opportunity to go to the bathroom. I can make sure that I feed them 2-3 times a day, as well as change their water before and after school. When it comes to the veterinarian, I can make sure that my mom or dad makes an appointment and gets the dog to the appointment. I can also help my mom or dad get the dog into the car and the vet.

  8. Self Reflection I chose my question to research because my family is looking into getting a pet. During this research project I was able to learn many things about pets. An important thing I learned about what makes pets healthy and happy is that even though pets can be very different, they all need food, water, a bed, and lots of love and time. I also learned that having a pet is hard work but I think I can do it!

  9. Meet the Author: Sam Smith My name is Sam and I am 8 years old. I live in Budd Lake, New Jersey with my sister Jennifer and my brother John. We all want a dog, bad! We have asked for a dog for our birthdays and also every Christmas. We want a dog to play fetch with, to snuggle on the couch with, and to read. I learned in my research that dogs are a lot of work and can be expensive to take care of. My brother, sister, and I have a plan to show how responsible we are to our parents. We each got a summer job to raise money to take care of a dog. I am hoping by fall our parents will see how serious we are and help us pick our next family member, Enzo. My hobbies include soccer and reading. I love second grade and learning new things especially about dogs.
