What are the benefits of an overnight stay?

  • Pupils may feel that they know their classmates and teachers well from day-to-day contact in

school, but the experience of living with them in a residential community can add a completely new

  • dimension. It raises the whole area of interpersonal skills, including leadership, team work and trust

and respect.

  • School trips can also make a major contribution to the acquisition of knowledge and development of
  • skills. Studies of the natural and man-made world, the present and past, science and arts, language

and music can all be enhanced outside the classroom.

  • There are also issues concerning the psychology of the whole experience, particularly involving self-

confidence, self-esteem and resilience. We frequently hear from teachers that pupils who do not normally shine in the classroom have excelled on a residential trip. This can all help to improve performance and relationships back at school.

These are all of the activities that Kingswood Staffordshire offer. As a school, we will liaise effectively with the centre to build a programme of selected activities to meet the needs of the children. The aim of the experience is to keep the children (and staff!) as active for as long as possible, exploring and taking on new challenges.

Safeguarding

  • All attending adults are school staff with a DBS check; all Kingswood staff are DBS checked
  • Children will be allocated a member of staff, who they will move around with for the different activities

(they will also carry any inhalers/anything specifically required for your child)

  • The centre is surrounded by high fencing with a video intercom system. It does not open, until activated by

a member of centre staff

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Groupings

  • Your child will be assigned to a group that will have a school staff leader and a Kingswood

staff leader

  • Groups are approximately 10 children each
  • Your child’s group will involve a mixture of children across both classes for socialisation and

development of further friendships (this sets them good foundations for transition)

  • Each group is allocated an activity number, which corresponds to their visit timetable (every

child will know where to go and where they are going to next and later on – this is complimented by a tour at the very beginning of our visit)

  • At the start of every activity (whether it be an indoor/outdoor activity or simply getting ready

for their meals), children will meet in their groups at their activity line (this is a designated point and also the assembly point) along with their group leaders
