Aims of the workshop

  • Explain why we are looking at online

homework

  • To share are policy on how it should

be used in the home

  • Develop an understanding of Raz-

Kids.com for Years One-Three

  • Develop an understanding of

Espresso.co.uk for Years Four-Six

slide-3
SLIDE 3

How Much Homework?

 The development of the whole child is important:

Play, family time and other non academic interests.

 At each stage of school we only require a specified

amount of time to be spend on homework.

 ›

Reception:30 min/week +reading

 Year 1 & 2: 1 hour/week +reading  Year 3 & 4: 1.5 hours /week +reading  Year 5 & 6: 2.5 hours /week +reading

slide-4
SLIDE 4

Why do we set homework

 Homework is not set to move the child

forward from where they are in class.

 Homework is set to reinforce and

consolidate what has been covered in class to help embed skills and knowledge before the child moves on to the next level guided by the teacher IN CLASS.

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Whole Child: Balance

 Children need to have their own time to

explore their own interests and not only those set by the adults around them.

 Children need to engage with other

human beings not just with a screen.

 Children need to engage in real life

situations.

slide-6
SLIDE 6

How you can help

 Learning is social and is best done

interacting with others.

 Talk about what your child is doing in your

home language. Your child may want to talk about things raised in the book/video.

 The important thing is that you are still

sharing in the reading/learning process.
