to take the lead on developing personal relationships with teachers

Drawbacks & Trade-offs

AC’s large size can make building community challenging. Self advocating is necessary so to not slip through the “big school” cracks

  • threats. We practice respect, integrity, and

empathy. AHA is a place of emotional, physical, sexual, and religious safety. We do not tolerate violence, hate speech, or discrimination.

AHA

What makes AHA special to us…

slide-11
SLIDE 11

If you’re looking to create close relationships AHA will be a great place for you to build lasting friendships. Limited access to AP classes in junior year (only AP English and Languages) but senior year we are required to take AP Gov and AP English and have the option to take AP Studio Art, and AP Science or Math A lot of projects are visual arts-based, and there is less opportunity for performing arts within the academic classes but students can take a variety of performing arts electives.

Drawbacks Trade-offs

  • Our looping model (having the same

teacher for multiple years) causes

  • ur course schedule to be very

structured and students therefore do not have as much flexibility to choose a wider range of electives.

  • Our students have less access to

AP courses than students in other programs.

  • You are able to build long-lasting

relationships with your teachers and classmates over the course of your three years in AMPS.

  • Instead of AP courses we offer

Honors courses as well as concurrent enrollment in Berkeley City College courses within some of

  • ur AMPS classes

As a result, students receive transferable college credits while in our program.

BIHS

Because we are an IB school, students are required to take:

  • Economics
  • Comparative Values and Beliefs
  • Global Literature
  • Global History

This gives you less opportunity for taking electives. Our student body is not as diverse as we would like it to be, however we are working

  • n it.
