Follow up from April 16th CBO Call

  • Q - Once a positive person has been cleared, can that person get the virus again or is that person considered immune?

Ex: Nursing home resident or jail inmate. Is it safe to go back to general population? Any special protocol?

  • It is still not clear if you have long term immunity after you have been infected. Antibody testing should help

confirm.

  • After entering in a congregate setting, such as the jail or nursing homes, screening, if symptomatic, test is

conducted, the person then goes to a “warm zone” while waiting for test results. If positive, put into isolation and begin contact tracing.

  • Q – Is DPH tracking and/or testing in nursing homes?
  • Skilled nursing facilities (SNF) required to report positive cases to state
  • Ongoing communication with SNF, assisted living, senior living sites
  • Looking at conducting surveillance with SNFs
  • Looking at building capacity for testing with SNFs by connecting them with local Medicare Medical providers who

can provide testing

Parent Testimonials

The short term and long term consequences

  • f the lack of instruction will prove to

disproportionately affect my children given that they belong to already vulnerable groups (low income, minority, English language learner). As a single mother I have to continue to work to meet my children's most basic needs and now the burden of acting as a teacher.

  • Carmen Zamora

20

slide-21
SLIDE 21

Parent Testimonials

I have four children that are students of Edison, Fulton and Columbia. I also have a son with special needs. I am aware that my children are not the only ones that are losing crucial instruction but majority of students of Fresno Unified. I ask myself how are the district & teachers going to help our children receive an education from home so that students’ academic level doesn’t decrease?

  • Dalia Arenas

21

slide-22
SLIDE 22

Parent Testimonials

I would like to request that teachers have instructional connection with each of their students, either teacher-student/ one-on-

  • ne, or in small groups through video

conferences, phone calls, texts or email. I also ask that when this instruction is given it is based on the needs of the student and that this is long term instruction.

  • Juana Iris Meza

22

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Parent Testimonials

I would like to request to have our students to see their teachers through zoom, email them to check up on their students or work with them in small groups through zoom. The more resources that our children have the more are going to be ready when they go back to

  • school. Hopefully soon our FUSD have their

laptops and tablets so we all can be ready to work with our students.

Increased Expectations:

Parents Take the Lead/ Districts Pursue Equity

Parents Districts

  • Ensure districts have correct

contact information

  • Call your district-

communication is key

  • Be Proactive: you may not

have all the answers but there are people who want to help!

  • Adopt an “Equity Lens”
  • Ensure that the most

vulnerable student populations get what they need

  • Look to CBOs and parents as

allies: we’re all in this together!
