  • Think long term-not just for the next two

years

  • What are my plans for my next stages?

Sixth Form, college, work–based training, employment, apprenticeship, university?

  • What are my career plans and aims? Do I

know what subjects are needed for the future?

  • What are my personal qualities and skills?

How should I choose my

be in the same groups

  • Find out about `new` subjects by speaking to the subject

teachers

  • Remember free option choices may be restricted by entry

requirements e.g. computing, triple science and business studies.

How should I choose my

SOME RECENT QUOTES

  • “A study by the UCL Institute of Education shows that studying

subjects included in the Ebacc provides students with greater

  • pportunities in further education. Sutton Trust research reveals

that studying the Ebacc can improve a student’s performance in GCSE Mathematics and English

  • The Russell Group guide on making informed choices for post-16

education identifies ‘facilitating subjects’. These are the subjects most likely to be required or preferred for entry to degree courses and ones that will keep the most options open. The subjects they identify are those included in the English Baccalaureate – mathematics, English, sciences , geography, history and languages (classical and modern).

The Government’s View

 The Government wants the majority of students to follow a

curriculum which contains the subjects of the English Baccalaureate (English, mathematics, science, history or geography and a modern language)

 The EBacc is a suite of subjects not a qualification in itself  It may put you in a strong position for future progression e.g. will

university entrance be influenced by it?

 Employers may well look for these qualifications as well as other

skills and attributes

 We believe that our curriculum offers choice for all students of all

abilities and we will continue to personalise.
