  3. Middle school students need positive teachers as a support system. I love being there to help them learn and grow throughout their middle school years. They make me laugh! Our job as teachers is to help them find their way along the path of life, and we get to enjoy the journey over and over again. Teaching middle school students is like a box of chocolates. Each day I enjoy middle school. We teach students to trust their unwraps a new adventure. ideas and believe in their abilities.

  4. Our Daily Schedule ● Two 6th Grade Teams: English, Math, Social Studies, Science Seven - 55 minute classes per day: Core Classes (listed above); PE/Health; ● World Cultures and Scientists at Work; and one choice Encore or Support classes. ● Wednesdays will have Lion Leadership or Lion Tutoring Time Encore choices for 6th Grade: Art 1, Family and Consumer Science 1, ● Engineering Design, Google for Computers, Multimedia Computers, Creative Writing, Chorus, Band ● Students needing additional support in Math or English may be placed in our Academic Lab in place of the choice Encore class.

  5. E-Learning at WMS Students will be issued a Chromebook in the first few days of school. (may be at registration) ● Training and Information will be provided to parents and students. ● The chromebook will go home each day. Students will be expected to bring it to school EVERYDAY, fully charged !! ● Many of our textbooks have online versions: English, Math, Social Studies ● ● Teachers will be using Google Classroom in many areas. ● Students need earbuds daily .

  6. E-Learning Agreements ● Insurance and Chromebook Agreement will be turned in at Registration. Insurance covers 3 repairs - screen, keyboard, etc. ● Replacement Costs for a chromebook is approx. $260; a charger is $30. ● ● Only school work allowed on Chromebooks. ● There is an offline work-around for those without internet.

  7. Expectations - General ● Use Google Calendar for assignments (no paper planners) ● Use of Backpacks - Padded area for Chromebooks ● Cell Phones - limited to lunch - not to be out or used in classrooms ○ Inappropriate use of phones will result in detention and parent pick-up of the device.

  8. Behavior and Attendance ● Minutes Matter! ● Attendance is Very Important - students should be in class by 7:25 a.m. on regular days and 8:20 on Late-In days. Students who are late to school will be issued a Tardy. ● Code of Conduct - consequences are more strict - fewer warnings, (1 to 3 hour) after-school detentions, lunch detentions, In-school suspension Breakfast is not free at the middle school - be sure food service accounts are ● up-to-date and that your child knows whether they may eat breakfast or not.

Differences Between Elementary and Middle School ● Students move classes every 55 minutes - so they have unstructured time in the hallway every hour Remind students (and we will too) about appropriate hallway and lunchroom ● behaviors. ● Lockers and Locks - Optional Separate folders, binders, and / or materials for each class ● Lunch Money and Cafeteria - Main Lines ● ● Breakfast is not free at the middle school - be sure food service accounts are up-to-date please Cell Phones Only at Lunch ●

  10. Grading - Homework ❖ Letter Grades - Not Standard Based Grading ❖ Tests, Quizzes, Projects, Essays, Daily Work, Participation, Homework ❖ Yes - there will be nightly homework - and it counts for a grade in many classes ❖ Infinite Campus - students can check their grades ❖ Parent Portal

  13. Clubs and After School Activities Intramurals - play and learn about football, basketball, volleyball, and/or track. This is for all ability levels. Art Club - create and learn about art (different than art class) Science Club - take science to the next level with more hands on experiments Game Club - play games (board, card, and video) Running Club - kids learn how to train for a 5k race and run cross country races in the process

  14. Clubs and Activities (cont.) TREND - drug-free activities sponsor (dances) Drama Club - learn about elements of theater Computer /Robotics Club - programming skills and computer-based activities STUCO - student council Yearbook - involved in creating the yearbook Honor Society - academic recognition organization
