averages on the DfE performance tables.

ever been.
- Our Year 11 students achieved 66 grade 9s
and 19.66% of grades were 7-9.
Key Facts
2019 recorded the best ever VA at +0.13 at EMS6
Reasons To Celebrate
1 in every 5 grades were A* - A. Half were A* - B grades. 7 subject areas secured A* results and 23 subjects had a 100% pass rate. In EMS6 we have more students going to top universities than any other college.
So A8 Eng (14) + Maths (12) + Ebac (7 + 6 + 6 ) + Others (6 + 6 + 5 ) = 62 / 10 = 6.2 P8 = 6.2-6.85 = -0.65

Mock Exams Commence 18th November 2019
- 1. The Basics
Provide a quiet space for study Help to reduce distractions: smart phones should be
removed until study session is over; research shows that listening to music during study time actually reduces concentration – no matter how much students insist they “need” it!
Ensure your son/daughter takes plenty of breaks Ensure any discussion or chat around revision or exams is positive
- 2. Revision Timetable
Once a revision timetable has been devised, place it/a copy in a central area Chat about what’s been done, what’s still to do, how it’s going, (being positive), are there any events coming up that might mean changing study sessions around etc
- 3. Strategies for revision - Spaced Practice
- 3. Strategies for revision - Interleaving
- 3. Strategies for revision – Retrieval practice
- 3. Strategies for revision – Quizzing/recall
- Self-quizzing
- Teach it back
- Timed response
- Summarise
- Flash cards
- Revision clocks
Summarising key information to mind-maps and/or flash cards
Remember…
- Reading over notes and highlighting are not effective
revision strategies! Very little will be retained.
- Summarising, condensing, repeating information, making
links, and quizzing will all help to ensure knowledge is “fixed” in the long term memory.
- Once it’s in the long term memory, something has been
learned.

The new qualifications are different to the old ones in several ways:
- There is new, more demanding content
- A greater focus on problem solving
The balance of entries between tiers has therefore changed. The percentage of 16-year-old students in England sitting higher in summer 2016 was 76%
