What this Adaptive Management Landscape Plan is about
- Increase carbon sequestration
- Improve environmental (heat, wind) conditions
- Improve overall aesthetics
- Enhance quality of life
…in the vicinity of the Peace Bridge
SLIDE 5
- New air quality studies
- Plaza routing and ramp configurations
- Customs processing / operations

Public Meeting Summary
- Meeting #1 – Project introduction and public
input
- Meeting #2 – Science results, design concepts
and public input
- Meeting #3 (Final) – Design solutions, phasing
and public input
SLIDE 7
Air Quality – Assumptions
- Dense planting may serve as a barrier to dispersion by
reducing local wind speed and forming a cavity that could capture air pollutants
- Planting patterns should maintain air flows and consider
alteration of air dispersion patterns
- Planting patterns may be site specific
- Plant selection should consider species that are effective in
carbon sequestration and capturing BC, UFP and Benzene (pollutants of concern in dense urban areas)

Planting Potential (CA) - Schematic
SLIDE 15
Planting Considerations (US) - Concept
KEY PRINCIPLES
- Keep air flowing
- Trees act as an
elevator to promote particulate dispersion
- Maximize tree
species that capture particulates
