We are a family:

  • The academy is a small family within the larger school
  • We have 54 students in our 9th grade class
  • Students roll up with each other each year
  • You will have 53 brothers and sisters by senior year
  • Some teachers teach multiple grades levels so academy

students get the same teachers twice

  • Ms. Spence is the academy counselor so she will get to know

you and your family very well.

  • She will be able to meet with you to help you with scheduling,

issues with grades or if you are struggling in school.

Grading Policy:

  • Grading Policy –
  • Maintain a 2.0 overall and a “C” in all academy classes.
  • If a student falls below the requirements:
  • Academic Contract for Success
  • Required weekly tutoring:

ØEvery Monday/Tuesday/Thursday ØMs. Kelly’s room from 3:30 to 4:30

Field Trips:

  • Students must receive approval from all their teachers
  • Students must be in good standing in all classes – Students failing classes will not

be permitted to attend

  • Code of ethics will be followed, violations will result in disciplinary action upon

return to campus

  • If a student misses the field trip, a makeup assignment will be required
  • Some field trips will requires fees for bussing and cost of event attending
  • Academy shirt or professional dress will be required. Students will be informed

which attire to wear for each event.

  • Parents must sign field trip permission slips even if the student is 18 years old
  • All academy students are REQUIRED to attend all field trips

Behavior Policy:

  • Behavior Policy –
  • Any referral to the Dean’s office is reported to Ms. Kelly.
  • Referrals resulting in a warning or detention, a meeting will be

conducted with student and Ms. Kelly.

  • If the referral results in an expulsion from school, the student will not be

permitted to return to the academy upon return to the school from an alternative learning environment.

  • Upon return to school, student will be placed in all non-academy

classes.

Cords for Graduation from ACAD:

Students must meet 3 of the 5 following requirements:

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA over the four years in all Academy classes
  • Obtain certification in at least one Software Application in

Adobe Program

  • Attend all three required evening events unless excused by the

Director

  • Earn 100 hours of Community Service over the four years

(towards Bright Futures)

  • No discipline referrals

Dress Code Policies:

  • Professionally dress the first Tuesday of each month
  • Students will be required to dress like they are going on a

professional job interview not to a dance or party

  • ACADEMY SHIRT all additional Tuesdays in the month
  • For a Grade in all Academy classes
  • Must be worn all 7 periods.
  • Four infractions will results in being placed on a contract.
  • Additional shirts may be purchased.

Community Service Requirements

  • 15 hours of community service hours per semester.
  • Completed hours are turned in to guidance to Mrs. Spence.
  • Keep a copy of all hours
  • 100 hours need to be earned by end of senior year

Fundraisers

  • Since we are an In-house academy, all the money we earn is from

Fundraising

  • Ink Cartridges, old cell phones and cameras. Bring them in to Ms. Kelly’s

room and help us earn money for our program

  • Silent Auction Baskets at Pot Luck
  • Golf Outing – Our biggest fundraiser for the year
  • Need golfers
  • Sponsorships
  • Goodie Bag Items
  • Donations

Required Academy Night-time and Summer Events

  • Freshmen Meet and Greet – One day the week before school begins
  • Parent Orientation Night – Fall of 2017 to go over paperwork
  • Pot Luck – December 2017 – Celebrate our semester successes
  • End-of-Year Banquet and Senior Graduation Ceremony – End of

April/Beginning of May 2018 – optional attendance here for 9th and 10th graders

  • Meet & Greet, Orientation and Pot Luck are required events for all

academy freshmen students
