Oil can sterilize, deform, or kill aquatic life. Ethanol is water soluble, de-

water and can kill fish and plants.

The oil tanker Exxon Valdez spilled more than 11 million gallons of crude oil into Alaska's Prince William Sound on March 24, 1989. The deleterious after effects continue for more than 25 years. Over 250,000 birds and 3,000 sea otters were killed. Only 13 of the 32 monitored wildlife populations, habitats and resource services that were injured by the spill are fully “recovered.”

Daily the Twin Cities are threatened by an estimated 30 million gallons of toxic, flammable liquid transported by rail.

An average of 10 unit trains carrying oil or ethanol pass through the Twin Cities daily, crossing the Mississippi River and the Chain of

  • Lakes. These mile-long,

trains each carry about 3 million gallons.

These Orcas became sterile after exposure
